We measured the same genre twice — every Steam title tagged “Roguelike Deckbuilder” in October 2024 and again in August 2026 — and the universe grew 140% in 22 months while the odds of a hit got worse.

Per-year counts above use the August 2026 snapshot only. The two snapshots are not overlaid per year because community tag membership shifts over time (the 2024 snapshot counted 93 releases in 2023 where the 2026 snapshot counts 84), which would invite a misleading year-by-year comparison.
This page compares two snapshots of the same universe: every Steam app of type “game” carrying the community tag “Roguelike Deckbuilder.” The October 28, 2024 snapshot derives from a public dataset (667 titles: 352 released, 315 announced); the August 17, 2026 snapshot is our own live collection from Steam's public, logged-out storefront pages at roughly one request per second (1,604 titles: 835 released, 769 announced). Both snapshots use game-level public facts only — names, dates, list prices, tags, and all-language review counts. Three comparisons are NOT made across snapshots because the underlying measurement changed: (a) Early Access status was read from the store flag in 2024 but from the community tag in 2026, so Early Access shares are not comparable and no EA delta is reported here; (b) the 2026 collection contains no SteamSpy owner bands, so owner-count comparisons are unavailable and all unit and revenue figures on this page are estimates from the review-multiplier method (units ≈ 30–50 × review count; gross ≈ units × list price, before discounts, refunds, regional pricing, and platform cut — true net is well below these figures); (c) developer counts were not derived for the 2026 snapshot. Launch price is proxied by the list price observed at each snapshot, so “launch price” for older cohorts reflects any later repricing. Tag membership is community-curated and shifts over time — the 2024 snapshot counted 93 releases in 2023 where the 2026 snapshot counts 84, because some titles gained or lost the tag between snapshots — so a tag-defined universe undercounts very obscure titles and bottom-tail figures are conservative.
